About Everybody Yoga & Fitness

Johns Island has spent the last decade outgrowing its old reputation as the quiet, rural stretch southwest of downtown Charleston. What was once a sleepy rural community of ancient oak trees and truck farms has emerged as a bustling suburb with breweries, new restaurants, and subdivisions, and the population has roughly doubled in the last decade alone, making it one of the fastest-growing communities in Charleston County. Everybody Yoga & Fitness opened into that growth with the goals of focusing on accessible fitness for all levels.

The studio was founded by Amy Hills, who spent close to twenty years in the music industry, including about seven years touring, before the pandemic upended that career. She found yoga on the road as a practice she could carry anywhere, but it was a studio class back home in Charleston that hooked her. Her partner and the studio's co-owner, Kevin, convinced her the dream of opening a studio was still possible. They found a space on Johns Island and built it out largely on their own, including tearing up old, water-damaged flooring, pushing through a delayed opening while waiting on inspections during a stretch when gathering indoors came with its own complications. What started as a pandemic-era leap of faith is now a working studio with a regular roster of members in South Carolina.

What They Do Best

Everybody Yoga & Fitness is formatted for breadth so guests can experience many different formats under one roof. The yoga menu covers five distinct styles — Gentle Yoga and Restorative Yoga for slower, breath-led practice; Hatha Yoga as the steady middle ground; Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga for faster-paced, heat-building flow. Barre and Pilates round out the schedule as separate strength-and-cardio formats, giving members a way to cross-train without leaving the building.

The Experience

The check-in experience leans casual, in keeping with the neighborhood's hometown pace. The front desk doubles as a quick hello rather than a formal gateway, with instructors greeting members and checking them in as class gets underway. New members get oriented organically, often through a quick word from fellow students instead of a structured intake. The energy is informal which help alleviate stress or propriety around a more rigid class structure. The relaxed vibe enhances the accessibility: no one here is left feeling pressured or out of place for trying something new.

Once class gets moving, the sequences are steady and approachable. Truly anyone can access and feel comfortable with the movement. Class sizes run small, which shapes the whole atmosphere. Corrections are natural and cues feel unscripted giving it a ‘flow how you feel’ approach to fitness. The instructors linger to talk before and after class, making it feel less "studio visit" and more hanging out with people you already know. It’s loose on formality, high on warmth.

What Makes Them Special

  • Full-spectrum class menu: Hot power, Hatha, restorative, barre, Pilates, and dance are all programmed under one schedule instead of split across niche studios.

  • Small-class social dynamic: Low headcounts mean members and instructors talk after class as people, not on a script.

  • First class free, no-pressure onboarding: No intake forms or sales pitch gating entry, just a walk-in policy.

Why We Love It

Everybody Yoga & Fitness’s stated belief, that movement belongs to everybody, and every body that walks through the doors is worthy of being here exactly as it is, tracks with how the studio operates day to day. It has unpolished edges, but is generous at the core. On an island absorbing a decade's worth of new neighbors all at once, a studio where strangers leave wanting to grab lunch together is doing something a lot of slicker operations never manage.
