Spring has sprung! Spring represents renewal, growth, and new beginnings. As the weather starts to warm up, we see an opportunity for rebirth and new life, not just in the natural world but in our businesses and personal lives as well. If you’re a small business owner, you know the importance of keeping things fresh, whether that’s fun spring fitness challenges, new spring marketing ideas for your fitness studio, or making updates to your physical space.

6 Ways to Spring Clean Your Studio

In many cultures, spring is viewed as the time to cleanse and purify to prepare for the new year or new season ahead. (It’s called spring cleaning for a reason!) Breathing new life into your business this spring can provide a sense of hope and optimism for what’s to come. That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of five ideas for how you can spring clean your studio.

1. Literally Cleaning

Okay, duh. Before you roll your eyes, I want to talk about the benefits of having a freshly cleaned space. Our physical space is often a direct representation of our mental state. So, if your space is cluttered and messy, it’s safe to say your thoughts are a bit all over the place as well. Interestingly, this also goes the other way around. You know the feelings you get when you enter into a freshly cleaned space? Relaxation. Ease. Peace. That’s how clients should feel when they enter your studio. Many of your clients are leaving behind their busy and chaotic lives for a sense of reprieve when coming to your studio for a class. It’s important to make sure your space is clean and tidy to give them that sense of peace they’re seeking. Plus, it’ll make you feel good too!

2. Rejuvenating your space

While you’re already thinking about the look and feel of your space, this might also be a good time to check in with your decor. Is anything outdated or simply no longer sparking joy? Would moving around what you already have create a feeling of newness without breaking the bank? Maybe you could bring in some flowers or plants to bring some literal life into your space this spring. While you’re at it, look around at all your signs and branding. Oftentimes, it can be an afterthought to remove old materials. That retreat that happened 6 months ago? A deal that’s no longer active? It’s time to go out with the old, so you can bring in the new.

3. Sprucing up your sub list

Although you may have cultivated loyalty with your staff, you’ll inevitably see some teachers heading out on vacations during the spring break season. This is a great time to spruce up your sub list. Do you have a robust list of back-up teachers who can fill in when your staff is out? What does your process for filling open teaching slots look like? Can you streamline? The last thing you want is to chase down teachers left and right, or worse, have to cancel class at the last minute because you can’t find someone to sub. Plan ahead and get systems in place, so you feel confident and prepared with your process. It may also be a good idea to check in with your current subs, especially if you haven’t used them in a while. Are they still available and reliable? Schedules change, people move away, and sometimes, they forget to reach out. You want to make sure you have the most up-to-date information so you’re not relying on someone who’s no longer available.

4. Upgrading your offers

With the changing of the seasons, maybe it’s time to take a look at changing your offers. Is there a spring discount on memberships you could offer? Maybe it’s time to freshen up your class list, expand your services, or add a new, exciting intro offer. Or perhaps you can launch a fun challenge to keep people engaged. If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to seek feedback from your current clientele. They often love to help, and they always have ideas of what they’d like to see incorporated into the community.

5. Swapping out your assets

When’s the last time you had professional photos taken of you, your team, or your space? Have you hired new team members, but not added their bios to your app or website? How’s your social media strategy looking? Nothing brings newness to your overall brand like new photography or assets. Have fun with it! Does your website really represent your business? Oftentimes, it’s easy to make updates to your physical space, but we end up with a digital graveyard of past versions of ourselves. Updating your brand online will not only make you feel more authentic and fresh, but it’ll draw in new clients as well.

6. Tackling “tomorrow” tasks

We all have them. That list of tasks we’ve been putting off for “tomorrow” for the last several months, always waiting until we have some extra time, but never finding any. Sometimes, you have to just make the time, and why not take this spring as an opportunity to get them done? Maybe it’s updating training manuals, going through old paperwork, checking in on your finances, setting KPIs—you know what yours are. Trust me, you’ll feel so much better when you can take those off your plate for good. Sometimes we don’t even realize how much mental space those things are taking up floating around in the backs of our minds. Use this time to free it up and create space for new ideas.
