Telomere Thinks: The Most Common Mistakes Studios Make with their Intro Offer

If your studio’s intro offer isn’t working, chances are it’s not your clients. It’s the structure.

While it can take a bit of trial and error to figure out what clients are actually looking for in an introductory offer, there are some clear strategies that have been proven to be more successful than others in conversions.

When done right, it should attract your ideal client, spark engagement, and lead clearly toward conversion. But even the most compelling introductory package needs to avoid some common pitfalls to maintain its effectiveness and reach new audiences.

In this edition of Telomere Thinks, we break down the most common pitfalls—and how to avoid them. Whether you're crafting your very first intro offer or rethinking your current one, you’ll walk away with clarity, inspiration, and a few action items that could change the trajectory of your sales funnel. Let’s dive in.

Under-marketing the offer.

It’s often treated as a set-it-and-forget-it tool, when in reality, it should be a front-and-center feature of your sales funnel. Too many studios don’t create a dedicated landing page on their website, fail to consistently promote it through social media, blog content and email, and overlook in-studio signage that could drive awareness among first-timers

A strong intro offer is only as effective as the visibility you give it—so make it easy to find, easy to understand and impossible to ignore.

Treating it like a discount instead of a conversion tool.

The purpose isn't to be affordable, it's to remove the barrier to starting. A great intro offer should give someone enough time to get a sense of your offering, your community, and a taste of the results. You'll want to use your intro offer to attract your ideal client, naturally leading them into a second purchase.

The intro offer should feel like a preview of the premium experience they'll get as a member so focus on a high-touch experience that will make those on your intro offer feel seen, supported, and confident about their next steps with your studio.

Prioritizing access over engagement.

A common mistake I see is studios designing intro offers that prioritize access over engagement. They’ll say, “Try 5 classes for $X”—but there’s no layered strategy to spark connection, track progress, or personalize the experience.

New clients don’t just need access to your schedule—they need reasons to come back, people who notice when they show up, and a sense of progress or transformation. An intro offer should be a guided experience, not just a pass. Without engagement, you’re left with visits—not relationships. And it’s relationships that drive conversion!

Melissa Williams, COO

Treating the intro offer as a sale.

I often see studio owners treat their intro offer as a sale or promotion, and not giving it enough time to see how well it performs. A well-structured intro offer will set the stage for a studio to bring in leads, nurture them, and convert them to loyal members.

We want to monitor those data points to see how well it performs and if you're mixing up your intro offer every month or two, we never have the ability to see which intro offer is the most appealing and has the highest conversion rate. So my advice is to find an intro path and give it some time to grow.

Zack Bell, Studio Consultant

Providing too many options.

Too many studios make their intro offer messy — multiple choices, no clear path, and nothing that actually sets up the sale.

You don’t need three options. You need one that works. The goal is to make the path obvious for the client and easy for the team to recommend.

Even with one offer, it needs to align with your pricing. Don’t offer unlimited use if your membership isn’t unlimited. That disconnect kills momentum and makes retention harder than it needs to be. Clean, clear, and connected. That’s how your intro offer should work.

Intros with Impact

Your intro offer is more than a price point—it’s your studio’s handshake. And when done with intention, it becomes one of the most powerful tools in your business. Whether you’re revamping your current offer or starting fresh, remember: clarity, consistency, and connection are what drive conversion.

What's a Telomere?

A telomere is a protective structure found at the ends of chromosomes in your cells. The length of your telomeres is influenced by factors like genetics, stress, lifestyle choices, diet, and exercise. Telomere Consulting draws on this biological concept as a metaphor for helping businesses maintain their "health" and longevity through strategic choices - much like how healthy lifestyle choices may help preserve telomeres in the body.
