The Experience
Pacific Beach has no shortage of fitness options, but Lagree Lounge earns its place in the lineup by being a standard-maker. Walking in, the energy is warm and efficient, check-in is seamless (done by the instructor), and you get the sense immediately that this studio runs a tight ship. The branding is clean, black and white, straightforward and has a subtle intensity that signals what’s to come.
The real magic here was our instructor, Geni. She checked us in and greeted us with a welcome newcomer card (that included membership options), guided us to our megaformer, and walked through all thing we needed to know before starting our sweat. Throughout the difficult workout, she managed to be simultaneously demanding and funny which may have just been another way she engaged our abs! She was hands-on with corrections and encouraged everyone by name without it feeling performative. The 45-minute full-body class was well-balanced and had us shaking. It was a steady, intentional burn from start to finish.
Even though we didn’t know anyone before class, there's an easy camaraderie among regulars that extended to everyone in the room. It was clear this studio consistently delivers and people keep coming back.
What Makes Them Special
Here's the honest take: on paper, Lagree Lounge doesn't reinvent the wheel. The aesthetic is monochrome, minimal, a bit stoic even. But there's something about a studio that doesn’t use gimmicks or kitsch. The product is the method, the instruction is on-point, and the community retention speaks for itself. A welcome card with membership options laid out clearly, zero pressure sales energy, and a instructor who invests in the room — that's a formula that works.
Where they could push further is in carving out a more aligned identity. The Lagree method has built-in credibility, but the studios that truly stand out find a way to make the brand and community unite. The instruction is strong and the branding matches the class intensity - but leaves little room for the fun we had along the way which might intimidate newcomers to the modality. A little more personality would match what's happening inside the studio and invite guests through the door.
