About Core Studio

Core Studio opened in March 2024 on Old Lancaster Road in Bryn Mawr, a Main Line suburb with a well-established fitness market and a clientele that knows what it wants. The studio was founded by Jules, a kinesiology and psychology graduate with over six years in the fitness industry and a background in high-intensity sports, She pivoted to pilates-based strength training, recognizing the performance benefits for athletes, but also impacting the lives of everyday people who benefit from low-impact strength training. Jules founded Core Studio on a model of small classes with intentional design, where quality of instruction does not get dilutes by scale.

What They Do Best

Core Studio's primary format is heated mat sculpt featuring pilates-based strength work. The class menu has expanded over the first year to include several distinct formats: Core Sculpt is the foundational offering, targeting deep stabilizers and posterior chain through low-impact, high-tension movement. Sculpt 360 layers in HIIT-style intervals that remain still low-impact, but faster-paced with a full-body conditioning focus. Core Cardio Sculpt is the highest-intensity format, rhythm-based and driven by music. It’s designed to spike the heart rate while keeping the work functional. Core & Restore is the balance; a slower class focused on strengthening and active recovery and runs in the evenings for a restorative experience.

What ties it together is the Monthly Movement Focus: a rotating programming theme that shifts the emphasis across all formats each month. Rather than running the same class on autopilot, the theme gives instructors a shared lens for diversified programming. Some classes also incorporate a gliding scooter prop for reformer-adjacent movement patterns, though it's used sparingly and the work is primarily mat-based.

The Experience

The space is small by design with check-in desk, cubbies, and the studio floor sharing the same room as the class. The instructor is also the person at the desk, which means names get learned fast and there's a visible familiarity between regulars. People chat before class, but the community atmosphere is inviting instead of exclusive. A small studio benefits from creating quick connections, creating comfort and reducing stress.

The class itself is the reason there are so many regulars. Instruction is precise, cues are consistent, and modifications flow seamlessly into the movement. The music is curated and works in unison with workout. There’s also an appropriate amount of heat that loosens the joints and muscles to create deeper work. It’s not the fanciest studio, but is will work deeply and keep you coming back with meaningful progression.

What Makes Them Special

  • Monthly Movement Focus. A programmed monthly theme shifts emphasis across the class menu, adding structure to a regular practice without requiring a new format.

  • Single-room studio. One class runs at a time, which means the instructor doubles as the front desk, creating consistent name recognition and community familiarity.

  • Private event programming. The studio books for private group classes, extending the community model beyond the regular schedule.

Why We Love It

Jules built Core Studio around a straightforward premise: if the instruction is excellent, everything else becomes secondary. The studio doesn't have high-end amenities or a sprawling class menu, and it doesn't need them. In a market with corporate studios that never learn your name, Core Studio's positioning as a community-centered, personal studio is clear and its execution is consistent.
